FHS SCHOOL COUNCIL MINUTES

May 5, 2025

Attendance:  Paula Carlson Cahill, Mike Feeney, Tom McManamon, Alexis Murraqy and Paula Smith

The meeting opened at 3:30 pm, with the note that Alan is not present because his fifth grandchild was born.

Today’s Agenda was reviewed and approved.

March 3, 2025 meeting Minutes were reviewed and approved.

HANDBOOK update:  Alexis received edits from the shared google doc, edited and will send the updated document to Central Office.

NEASC wrap up:  Tom submitted the 3 year progress report in February. We work on a decennial timeline which began 3 years ago. Tom shared a letter from NEASC which includes a list of commendations. We identified Future Priority Areas for Growth, will continue the Vision of A Graduate PreK-12, integrate curriculum documents so they are living, breathing documents, and continue to pilot and improve MTSS.  February 1, 2028 our 6 year report is due. Then in year 7 or year 8, we begin the prep / work for the decennial.

Suggested:

Connecting UbD documents with Schoology - Department Heads felt UbD docs were separate from Schoology docs  - Have each department include what they use to get to their goals; work to link curriculum documents within the lesson structure of schoology pages; note what they are doing and why. Then list a menu of choices for how to teach/learn those lessons.

All US History II teachers used the I AM A CLIPPER rubric due to Mike Gennaro’s genius to break down the civics project for all Grade 10 students to this.

FHS Calendar is linked to the agenda.

Upcoming Meeting - This is the last meeting for this school year

Elections - we will hold elections for members in the Fall.

Vocational Rehab - perhaps add at FHS?

Paula Smith heard about this from Florida and the military calls this Military Vocational Readiness & Employment (VRNE) - to teach students how to navigate their plan. IF saying want to go to 4C’s for dental - how do you get to dental? Plan internships in the community for shadowing. Work on interview skills. If going into a trade - how do we prepare them in jr/sr years so they’re ready?

Tom spoke about Naviance and our guidance counselors working with our students after they complete their future plans piece.

Mike spoke about having Senior Seminar for ½ year, optional - to talk about how to buy a car, finance, investing. It’s nickname was “The Game of Life”.

Tom spoke about how our Credit for Life Fair does that and is a valuable day.

The meeting adjourned at 4:05 pm.
